Official Gtk2 pre-release (1.9.0) is due at the end of January. The stable release is slated for summer 2006, although by the time Dapper is due there should have been a couple of 1.9.x releases:

Currently it must be acquired from SVN:

Gtk2/Gnome2 porting status:

The GnuCash 1.8.x (Gtk1) is so out-of-date UI-wise that an early upgrade to the Gtk2 version would probably see more GnuCash usage even if it is less stable. Initial reports to GnuCash devel list are encouraging in terms of backwards compatability (with importing 1.8.x accounts) and stability.
