Official Gtk2 pre-release (1.9.0) is due at the end of January. The stable release is slated for summer 2006, although by the time Dapper is due there should have been a couple of 1.9.x releases:

Currently it must be acquired from SVN:

Gtk2/Gnome2 porting status:

The GnuCash 1.8.x (Gtk1) is so out-of-date UI-wise that an early upgrade to the Gtk2 version would probably see more GnuCash usage even if it is less stable. Initial reports to GnuCash devel list are encouraging in terms of backwards compatability (with importing 1.8.x accounts) and stability.

Yeah, no way are we going to see this for Dapper. On the plus side the debian maintainer is really anxious to move to it, as he's been forced to take on maintenance of more and more packages that only Gnucash still depends on (Debian basically wants to kill gtk1, I think, as do most distros). So we should be able to get packages from debian unstable/experimental pretty promptly.

Any pointers on who the maintainer is or where he keeps his experimental stuff? I'd be very interested in testing out GnuCash2 .debs when he provides them.

Initial release has been revised for this coming Sunday (5th). I hope .debs are available soon!

I recently compiled gnucash2... I was pretty impressed overall. It's definitely far from being complete, but it's pretty usable.

If you want to check it out, just build it:

Somebody has provided a .deb here:

It works well from what I can tell. You need to install a few things (gwrap, libgsf, slib, guile-slib, guile etc) as the .deb doesn't seem to handle dependencies.
