dell mini backlight

i have a dell mini 9 with ubuntu 8.04lts. when i restart it or resume it from sleep the backlight always goes to full and so i have to manually adjust it back to the setting i want it at. is there not a way that it could save the settings it had before it went to sleep or restarted etc?

Look under System->Preferences->Power Management. It might be power saving instead, I am not too familiar with Hardy's interface.
