View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu 9.04 having problems resuming from suspend

Whenever I resume from suspend on my laptop, it doesn't work correctly! I type in my password, and all I see is my desktop background. I don't see any panels, windows, etc. Just the desktop background. The mouse works normally, but the keyboard doesn't work (although I can still do alt+sysrq and REISUB to restart). This problem started suddenly 2 days ago. It worked fine before then.....

My laptop is a Dell Vostro a860. According to Dell.com, my graphics card is:

Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100+

And my chipset is:

Intel® GM965 Express chipset with ICH8M

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

I actually had that problem my old dell, I have that problem with my desktop, and I have that problem with my IBM thinkpad. I just figured something was wrong with the suspend feature in Ubuntu so I just don't use it...
Does your hibernate not work either? Because mine does not either.

Well, I barely ever hibernate my laptop, but I suspend a LOT...
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I think it might have something to do with my graphics card.

Dun think so... I have a vostro A860 too but with Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic. It suspends normally...

Try to update the bios maybe? or check the update manager?

or even upgrade to 9.10... ;)

Hibernation or Suspend never worked for me until Karmic TBH.

Hibernation works fine for me with my Dell XPS M1530 when I hit Fn + F1. I just get it to blank the screen when I close the lid.

Strange... My A860 suspends normally when I close the lid, or use the FN+F1...

Does it happen in other OSes? Have you tried closing the Lid in windows ??

You can change that under the power setting in the system menu in Ubuntu, and also in Windows. I tell it to do nothing when I close the lid.
