Hi,
Like every fan of Linux, I completely ditched Windows to use only Ubuntu 9.04. Initially i loved it. But, these days its giving me a tuf time by heating up.

I use a Dell Inspiron 1525 core 2 duo 2 Ghz 3 GB Ram laptop. I installed Ubunt 9.04 Notebook remix version.

I m really disappointed with this version on my laptop. The laptop either shutsdown or literally hangs while playing videos on youtube on firefox or swiftfox.

Are there any configuration tips to improve performance or shall I go ahead and install any other older stable version of Ubuntu instead of 9.04???

Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

i am already thinking of dual booting with Win XP.

Please advice...

Do you mean you are using "Ubuntu 9.04 NETBOOK remix" version? If so, that version was created for netbooks and is optimized for the Intel Atom processors. You should switch to one of the regular ubuntu 9.04 versions for that machine. I have UNR 9.04 running on my Dell mini + ubuntu 9.04 running on my ThinkPad w/ core2duo and both are performing splendidly.

I think you are right...But is it possible to upgrade my current Ubuntu Netbook remix version to the regular desktop version?

If yes how is it done?

Thank you for the reply. Please help.

Afraid I do not know enough about the differences between the two, but doubt that you can update or upgrade from unr to regular ubuntu.
