So about a year ago Verizon installed a wireless router to my home network and I guess it's been broadcasting signal the whole time. I only had a desktop until today, I bought a Dell Inspiron 15. With this new laptop I cannot connect to my wireless router. The laptop is Vista just because I havent installed Ubuntu yet. My desktop is an old Hp running Ubuntu 6.10. Can anyone help me?

first check to see that your wireless card is turned on on your laptop (theres generally a switch).
can you see any networks at all?

it would be nice if you could mention how you ended up solving the problem for the benefit of others who would view this thread later on..

Thing is there are very many specifics to his/her problem and somebody looking for a solution most likely won't look at the thread that just says 'my wireless card isn't working...' or something like that.
