Hi, I am an extreme ubuntu nooby. That having been said, I am trying to remote access my ubuntu game server from my pc.

I have installed xfce, x11vnc, and ssh on the ubuntu server. On the client I have installed NX client.

I have root access to the ubuntu server. When I try to start xfce4. It fails. When I try to run x11vnc, it also fails because it says it needs an X open display.

What can I correct to get the remote desktop to work?

Does the server start Xorg on boot?

I think so because I installed xorg and xfce4.

Did you tell it to allow for remote connections? Under Gnome it is System - > admin -> login window. not sure where with xfce

Ok, I tried reinstalling xorg and it says it is already at the newest version:

Has anyone installed a GUI remotely via putty and been able to view your ubuntu server remotely?

Gosh, I want to get this server started.:p
