i upgraded my fire fox to 3.6 using a PPA repository:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu

installed just fine and most things work just fine; however if i try to open a linked media file i get the new window as i would expect but just "done" without seemly any attempt to play the media file.

ideas?

Have you tried Firefox 3.5 first or did you installed the 3.6 version directly?

Did it worked in the 3.5 version?

directly.

** installed 3.5 and it does seem to work; maybe something is broken yet in 3.6
