Does Ubuntu have antivirus software and if not, where can I download from?

No, Ubuntu doesn' have one. But you don't need one either, as there aren't any Linux viruses such program would protect you from. ;)

There are some antivirus apps available for Linux, but their purpose is to scan for Windows viruses, for example on a corporate mail server to help protecting Windows computers.

There are some antivirus for Linux. But as there are pretty much no viruses for Linux out there, those anti-virus actually protect against virus for Windows computers on the same network as the Ubuntu computer.

Don't install any, its not needed unless your computer is networked with Windows machines or interacts regularly with them.

Otherwise it will just waste your system resources.

Yeah if your running SAMBA then install clamav. If not don't worry.

Even when networking (or otherwise sharing files) with Windows machines one could also consider that the Windows machine must be able to protect itself on it's own anyway, so it makes no difference if you run antivirus program on Linux or not. ;)
