Hi folks,

Basically I've just popped Ubuntu onto my laptop, dual booting with Windows Vista.

I wanted to be able to view my windows files on ubuntu so I mounted the windows drive. Only thing is, I can view all my other files except for my music, videos or pictures. (Basically the My Music, My Videos and My Pictures folders)

Any help/advice would be grateful as I'm a total Ubuntu noob!

[EDIT: I misunderstood. Please delete this. I'll read the first post more careful from now on..]

do you know where they are in the file structure of vista? those folders are actually links to folders embedded in your system drive usually. you need to know the location of those.

oh and

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras vlc

from a terminal will take care of any probs you have with codecs and install lots of other useful stuff.

always one of the first things i do on a fresh install :D

Thanks for your replies guys.

Its weird, it's now working

I went to check that I had the proper location of the folders as you suggested Shifty, and I can now view all the files! lol

And I thought windows was strange!

Thanks for your help guys, and I'll be sorting out the codecs as you suggested as well.

I'm a happy bunny now :D:D
