My Oblivion disc has died. :(
Anyway maybe I can help you at least.
A few questions;
What version of WINE are you using?
What graphics card do you have?
What graphics driver are you using?

Ok, Im on wine wine-1.0.1-174-gc4039bd with playonlinux acting as installer. Got a nvidia Geforce 6something that could handle oblivion on windows, got all drivers running perfect. What happens is when I open 'blivion it gives me the little starter thingamajig, I click play, it changes rez, and dies.

Ok. I have never used PlayOnLinux when installing Oblivion. I always use just WINE. It would really help if I knew exactly what your graphics card was.

I seriously doubt that will help you. You need to tackle any possible hardware issues before anything.

Well firstly, your using a very old version of WINE, and it has some issues with certain cards.

Debian has a very poor reputation with WINE. You would be better off with Ubuntu.

Sorry... I love debian!! I used to use ubuntu, but it's too safe and noobish compared to debian, no offense. I still love ubuntu, I just like debian way more

If Ubuntu is too safe for you, may I suggest trying your l33t skills on Gentoo...

On a more serious note, if you would like to use WINE with a decent support base, then I would really suggest switching back to the boring, safe world of Ubuntu.
