Hi, a few weeks ago, I started an online petition to convince Bohemia Interactive Studios, the developers of such games as Operation Flashpoint and ArmA 1 and 2, to allow a 3rd party company to port their flagship games to Linux. I'm trying to gather enough support among both the Linux and the ArmA gaming communities so as to build a compelling enough reason for convincing BiS that a linux port would be a good idea. The petition is right here:

Please sign it!

Now, I know you probably will say, but online petitions don't accomplish anything. Yes, that's what I think too, but in my opinion, this case is a little different. I was able to talk to an official representative of BiS before, and despite their lack of enthusiasm regarding the possibility of a linux port of their games, if enough support is shown to them about this, they might change. Besides that, I have contacts with a company called Linux Game Publishing, which ports games to the linux system, who would be doing the actual porting work. They are very much interested in porting the BiS games to Linux.

Another reason why I think this is different, is because I'm asking for suggestions here to everyone in this board, on ways to get this working. I've been going around the different ArmA/BiS games, and there's been so far a lot of enthusiasm for this effort, but I think probably there needs to be another angle to tackle this from. So, I'm asking you guys, do you have any suggestions as to bringing both Linux gaming communities as well as ArmA/tactical FPS/Bis gaming communities together to show their interest?

thanks!

How about a link to info actually about the game, screenshots and stuff. Any official website?

I wont sign any petition of this kind unless i intend to actually cough up the £30 the game will cost to buy (and if LGP are doing the porting, thats what it WILL cost).

I've played an older version of the game. They had native linux ports and there was talk about bringing it back.

Hope they do. I'd love to see the newer version available

Well, I'm certain LGP could rewrite the direct3d dependencies into OpenGL calls if necessary. They are pretty good. :)

ArmA?

Yea, it's a tactical realistic FPS game by Bohemia Interactive. They just release the sequel this week.

We're trying to get this game ported to Linux. :)

Awesome, the petition site now has over 100 signatures! And the list keeps increasing! Maybe Bohemia will consider a linux port this time around. :)

100 won't be enough and also, it's an online petition, with a lot of anonymous psuedonyms. You're better off pounding sand.
