I am still learning how to run a webserver. My question is this, I have a few things I basically would like people to download from my server, for free. Just to gain more traffic, hopefully keep some of them there. So ya, how do I do this?

If you run a server, you're already letting people "download" your website for viewing, for free :)
Were you looking for something specific, like a special application script (in PHP, perhaps) that "serves" downloads in a friendly format, like FileFront, etc?

Do you know html?
Just put the ebooks in your web servers root directory ( should be /var/www/) and link to them.
Or create a separate subdirectory and put the ebooks in there and link to that directory.

Yes, that is all that you need to do. If you have a traffic limit through your isp, you could always have a third party host it. Getting back to it, a simple html link will do it.
