I always thought ubuntu kind of looked orange, but my mom sees it as brown..... What do you think?

It seems to get less brown and more orange every release.

I see it as a kinda burnt orange. If that makes any sense.

I normally only look at the default theme for about five minutes before I change it when I do a clean install. I think its a mixture of both, I usually use SlicknesS or imetal.

Re: Brown or orange?

It depends what we`re talking about. If it`s Ubuntu then browns just fine with me but if it`s another Brown we`re talking about then i think an orange would replace that fruit just fine.

Edit:And after actually reading the first post...... :-)

What grubby- said. It was unambiguously brown back in the day. Now it's brown and orange.

The logo has always been pretty orange.

I'm going to agree with Grubby. It has become less and less brown and more and more orange with every release.

Not even the default wallpaper, which is usually the brownest part of Ubuntu, is that brown anymore. Just look at Jaunty's wallpaper. It's an orangy brown.

I personally like orange in general. Nice color.

I guess the title bar has a little brown in it. When Mark put out the message about Karmic possibly getting a new color and people were all like "Brown has got to go!" I was thinking "Brown? What brown?"

Let's have a look at Ubuntu through the ages (http://tuxradar.com/content/road-jaunty-look-back-ubuntus-history) [tuxradar.com]:

Ubuntu 4.10, Warty Warthog:

Ubuntu 5.04, Hoary Hedgehog:

Ubuntu 5.10, Breezy Badger:

Ubuntu 6.06, Dapper Drake:

Ubuntu 7.04, Fesity Fawn:

Ubuntu 7.10, Gutsy Gibbon:

Ubuntu 8.04, Hardy Heron:

8.10 didn't really look any different to Hardy except for the wallpaper change. Same for Jaunty.

And for extra excitement, as an animated gif too:

Yeah, it definitely gets less brown with each release.

I hope they change color soon though, because the brown and orange is getting old.

I can speak for 9.04
It's more orange than brown (or is it my monitor settings?)

I rather like the orange... Maybe they could leave it in, but change the default? Makes everyone happy lol.

I think that males and females might actually see slightly different colors when viewing the same object. I've been in quite a few instances where someone will say "X object is B color" and all of the guys will agree that X object is B color. But all of the girls will state that X object is really C color. Followed by each side accusing the other side of being colorblind.
I rather like the orange... Maybe they could leave it in, but change the default? Makes everyone happy lol.
No matter what they do theres going to be 10,000 new threads daily that complain about how horrible the default color scheme looks even though it only takes 30 seconds to change.

I hope the Ubuntu colour change is like a wave.
Started on a brown crest falling into an orange trough and then climbing back up to another peak of brown, the right and proper colour of Ubuntu.

Either way I like both the brown and orange on Ubuntu. I have noticed the change throughout the releases. I like the orange tint most and voted for orange. Generall people complain about the colors being less favorable but I find it more unique than blue (fedora) or green (suse). And, this is coming from a favoring Fedora user. ;)

8.04 is orange through my eyes. I end up at gnome-look anyway; so it could be black today, blue tomorrow, green the day after tomorrow.

The default Human theme worked well with the Hardy Heron wallpaper. It seemed complete.
