Hello! I've used this forum a lot of the last couple of months and it's been so helpful that this is the first question I need answered that I can't find already posted on the forum.

I'm trying to use an Adobe pattern in Gimp. It has the .pat file extension but when I try to refresh my patterns in order to use it I get this error:

Fatal parse error in pattern file '/usr/share/gimp/2.0/patterns/9-webtreatsetc-retro-grunge-patterns.pat': Unknown pattern format version 65536.

Is there a work around to this? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks!

I don't think GIMP is compatible with Photoshop patterns, just like GIMP can't use Photoshop brushes, as far as I know.

Your half wrong.
GIMP CAN use MOST Photoshop Brushes.

Its just patterns don't work.

And I considered myself a photoshop wizard, no clue what patterns are.

By the way the abr capabilities of GIMP are extremely limited. Don't get me wrong, I love GIMP for what it is, but the brush engine has a long way to go before we can say it's fully compatible with photoshop brushes without our souls cringing in some dark corner of the room.

GIMP 2.6 is the first GIMP to easily use Photoshop brushes as far as I am aware. It's just a matter of finding the right file extension and I've even seen a tutorial for converting Photoshop brushes to be used in GIMP.

Thanks for the help with the patterns! Sad to know that it won't work but it's good to know anyways.
