I'm not talking about the number of themes, but the defined widgets/features. There are some beautiful themes on gnome-look.org, but most of them don't define tabs and buttons properly.

Gnome themes are so limited as compared to KDE because KDE has just recently taken up a newer, better toolkit. Gnome will also do that in about a year. There appear to be some promising initiatives around.

Honestly I do like The simplicity of gnome since i got used to it

I too like gnome's simplitity. But this simplicity needs to be brought to step with modern trends some. So don't tell me I can as well ditch it than ask for it to continue updating.

Also the fact that KDE has Plasma which lets Superkarambas and Plasmoids integrate into the desktop flawlessly.

Yeah. Unfortunately, desktop widgets have nothing to do with theming, and are a far from an original technology.

What theme engines does KDE offer other than Bespin and QtCurve? (Or Domino for KDE3, which I miss terribly) Is there a pixmap-based theme engine for KDE?
Can you create and customize a theme with a text file? I know there are Bespin configuration files and QtCurve configuration files, but is there a single, general theme file for KDE like .gtkrc?
Can you combine theme engines to create a custom theme?
