Why not? Ubuntu is the only Linux distro that I've used regulary over the last few years: it works!

Because it is set up to be as easy as possible for a beginner whilst retaining the power and configurability (is that a word) of linux.

That is more a subject for a discussion/discours. Not something for the general help subforum imo

I only use operating systems that begin and end with the same letter, and they must have that letter somewhere in the middle too. That's why.

Because the software I need is FREE under Linux and Ubuntu makes the installation brain-dead easy. It's also really easy to backup all your settings before reinstalling the OS or even moving to a whole different Linux distro.
I currently have a 20" iMac, 3 pc's and 3 laptops. I only run Windows on 2 and the rest is all Ubuntu, incl. the iMac. OSX is even worse than windows in terms of free/opensource software, they should rename it CapitalistOS.

Read some history. Apple were the hungriest bunch alive, they just weren't as smart and cunning as Gates.

I am not referring to the OS itself but more to the developer-base. Most GOOD programs for OSX are commercial. It's very hard to find decent software which doesn't cost a bundle. Windows just has a vastly larger group of developers, hence more open/free software, and of course Linux tops all that :)
Anyway's this is offtopic..
