Can we get this backported? It's in Dapper and it has some usability improvements, it fixes a couple of bugs and it has improved perl scripting capabilities. Thanks.

XChat is already in the universe mirrors of Dapper, just apt-get update or apt-get install xchat. All the repositories will come with it.

Not sure if you really need the backport since it's in the universe mirrors

I tried downloading and installing just the xchat_2.6.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb file but that didn't work due to dependency problems.. what did I do wrong?

Nevermind, I found some DEBS for Breezy on this site http://www.starnux.net/repos/ubuntu

Now using xchat 2.6.1 :)
