I seem to be having a problem regarding Dwarf Fortress. Despite the fact that Dwarf Fortress runs perfectly under WINE on my roommate's laptop, it runs too slow to actually be played on my desktop(which had run the game fine under Windows). Even when I forcibly quit Dwarf Fortress, when I go to terminal and go to top, it says XORG is still occupying 99% of my CPU. Any help/advice with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

First off, there is a wine sub-forum here (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=313).

As for the problem you describe, are you running compiz and are your video drivers properly installed? If so, on your roommates laptop, are there any dll overrides or wine registry hacks that could change the behavior in which Dwarf Fortress runs?

What version of wine do you have installed and did you follow the guide here (http://www.winehq.org/download/deb).

have you tried DWARF FORTRESS linux native version?
i've played it some time ago and worked quite well (no problems encountered), mods and stuff, all things working. i think it's to be found on DF forums or somewhere.
