Why bother when you have Banshee and Amarok?
They both work better that iTunes in my opinion.

this petition, again?
I think it's better to ask for the liberation of ipod-touch/iphone IO api, as it is the only thing I could thing someone would need itunes for...

Do we really need iTunes? I get along fine without it.
What is so great about it? What is its killer feature?
There are plenty of alternatives imo.

Been done a million times. Won't happen, and we don't need it in the first place.

Only one thing makes me care about iTunes: they sell DRM-free music in Canada. 7digital and Amazon MP3 haven't expanded into Canada yet, so iTunes is about the only game in town when it comes to getting a full catalog of DRM-free music from the major labels.

Hate to be the party pooper, but I'll give it a .001521% chance that this might actually work.
BTW, I signed it, too.

Same here in Australia - all my iTunes music is DRM free and I can use it on more than just my iPhone.
I also play my iTunes tracks on Ubuntu using VLC....
As for iTunes being in Ubuntu - I think its a bit of a pipe dream.
I don't think Apple are in the business of catering to a very very small marketshare and developing a product which effectively will cost them money to do for basically no return or run the risk of a negative return (they are there to make money not make computer users feel all warm and fuzzy after all)
Also some people will refuse to use it anyways because of their beliefs about FOSS vs closed source apps, and others will protest that it does get brought over into the Linux world as they are too busy being anti-this and anti-that instead of just using their computers....
I have signed it, and the others, but its a futile cause...

I agree. That would be much more useful and more feasible than a port of that mess known as iTunes.

I buy my mp3's at amazon.
I use an sdhc card to transfer my music from one device to another.
I have a personal boycott on Apple and MS products (though I fudge a little now and then)
I'll sign, because I think it would be great for many people, but as for myself, I'll never use it.

Open Source is the only way to go.
MAC = Monopolizing Apple Company
How about a petition to make it open source?
