I've recently run into a strange error which I cant explain nor solve. Ive been using Ubuntu 8.10 on my Toshiba laptop since last year. It has worked flawlessly and Ive never had any problems until now.
Last week I did some minor desktop changes such as a new background, changed the panels around etc. I also changed the login window.
Since then I can no longer shutdown or restart. If I try shutdown or restart using the GUI, it just brings me to the log in screen. If I try shutdown or restart in the terminal, the computer just hangs.
Any ideas?
