So, after lots of aggro with pSX, I decided to give PCSX another try. It works fine, no slowdown, no crash on battle swirl etc. on Intrepid.
Only problem is, playing FF7 at least, the sound is just somehow wrong with either of the plugins that come to mind.
If I use the default ALSA Sound 1.0.0, the music is just off every often enough to be annoying. If I instead opt for Pete's OSS Audio Driver 1.1.9, the music is perfect, but the sound is awful, especially in battle - for example, Cloud's sword slash is replaced with a high-pitched sound of inscrutable nature.
After all the hassle I went through before getting this to work, it would be nice to have the sound quality I got used to in pSX on Jaunty as well as the speed.
