Short and sweet...

If I want to install XP in Virtualbox in 9.04, will I need to use the Windows Liscense Key as if i was doing a normal install?

you always will need a license key to install anything. Go at it logically. :]

They don't give away software for free.

That would be a yes. A virtual machine in virtual box is basically another computer inside your computer. The only difference is, they're both using the same hardware components, so other than that, everything works as if you were installing it on any other computer.

And it has to be a proper full install CD, the recovery disks that you get with PC's won't work (they're tied to specific hardware).

Technically, yes, you need a key. But there are ways around such things...

Thanks guys! just as I figured.

I have a XP cd, but this is a friends computer that got fried and she couldn't find her Dell recovery discs (I didn't want to use my lisc key). She went out and bought a new computer so I installed Ubuntu on this old one, and have been tweaking it really nice so I think she will be impressed with what Ubuntu can do, but wanted to have XP on it as well, so she wouldn't totally freak out and push it to the side. A comfort blanket so to speak.
