DVD downloads
Don't be confused, even though DVDs can hold far more data than the typical Ubuntu CD, the main benefit of the DVD downloads is to get access to all of the available language packs. Most people will be fine with the standard CD installer. There are fewer download locations for the DVD images and this list is updated less frequently than for the CD images.

Can't confirm that. I've heard widely differing reports on what is contained on the LiveDVD.

I'm about tempted to download an image and unpack it just to find out and end all the discussion.

EDIT: Screw it... Downloading this bad-boy to find out.
EDITII: Don't hold your breath though; even on my T100 connection this is gonna take a few hours.

I used ultimate edition before, also on dvd... It had kde, gnome and xfse. With multiple packages of anything you will ever need, all i had to download extra was skype and windoze codecs. The rest was all there. Most of the pacages was unused but since i had to pay per MiB from my home internet, it was better(cheaper) to just download the dvd from some place with free internet(dont ask). I now have monthly uncaped internet so the cd is faster to download and you end up with only the packages you use...

That i think is the main diffs, hope it helps

Ultimate Edition is a separate "distro" based on Ubuntu. It's not the same thing as downloading "plain vanilla Ubuntu" on DVD.

TheeMahn "hand rolls" each version Ultimate Edition and includes many additional packages. I used it for a long time and was/am still an Admin on his forums. UE worked for me back when I was first introduced to Ubuntu and it booted on my system when no other distro would. Opinions on UE vary wildly here on the forums so I tend not to bring it up much. You might also want to look into Super Ubuntu now referred to, it seems, as Super OS...
