Hi all

I'm having issues with .mp4 playback in both Totem and VLC. Totem is frameskipping badly while the frameskipping in vlc is watchable but still very noticable. I have all the codecs, medibuntu etc installed so I'm not sure now what to do.

Any pointers of help would be great.

Thanks

Sempron 3000

Have you tried using MPlayer? I hear it's pretty good when playing mp4's.

Okay, I'm playing an mp4 I got off YouTube on my laptop with MPlayer and it's playing well with it.

1. What codecs (exactly) do you have installed?
2. What video card do you have?
3. Do other video formats play normally? (AVI/MPG/FLV/etc.)

Hi The Pinny Parlour,

I have tried Mplayer but get only sound and no video.

mp4 in this context is simply a container, I guess the trick would be to see exactly what is inside the container. Can you open the problem file with MPlayer from the commandline using the syntax:

mplayer -v myfile.mp4

and post the full terminal output here?
