Helio's blog Strong Winds of change for Linux (http://lobby4linux.com/WordPress/?p=72)
any idea's what this is about. I like what this guy is doing in texas with the komputers4kids and some of his blogs are interesting...
anyone have comments pertaining to his latest blog?
If and when something happens within the 72hrs...what will it be?

I think he's offensive in an endearing way (kind of like Stormy Eyes right here on our own forum)--opinionated but deep down a good guy.
I'm addicted to reading his blog, but I think he's wrong about PCLinuxOS--it's a good OS; it's not, however, the savior of the Linux desktop. For one thing, it won't detect my USB mouse or sound card. Ubuntu will.
My guess is that this 72 hours announcement is just PCLinuxOS finally reaching version 1.0 (no longer beta), and it really won't make any difference; sorry, Helios.

I think the announcement will be off little importance to be honest, unless he magically can summon about 20 million lines of code for outstanding features in Linux within 72 hours, I can't see how anything really change that much.
I will of course take this chance to plug my own blog, the GNOME commentary (http://lovesunix.net/blog/) - mostly a bit of personal wondering about the state of Linux, GNOME and the desktop but I promise there will be nakedness at some point.

In case anyone cares, or even still remembers this, the "big" news was announced, it turned out to be not code, not a release - but a mere publicity campaign. Based around PCLinuxOS, so the big news was just self promotion and Helios was trying to generate hype around this announcement. I fail to see how this will further the Linux as a whole, at least compared to what corporations like IBM have been doing for a long time (remember the IBM Linux adverts?). If publicity was all we needed to topple Microsoft' dominance it would have happened long ago.

I was disappointed to hear it was just a few radio ads in the Austin, Texas area, but I guess it's something--certainly not anything to make Microsoft quake in its boots...

Not only that, it doesn't seem to be levelaging choice and what's wrong the current system in terms of security, openness, freedom, etc. it's merely promoting a certain Linux distribution.
I hardly think this will be more effective than say your average toothpaste ad.

After Helios' 72 hours post I've lost track. Also I am dissapointed. If it's all about PCLinuxOS it indeed isn't all that special. Not because it's a bad OS but really there are better. Also those few radio ads won't refill that wasted time and even money, if spend on it.

I'll say one thing for Helios--he has humility.
Read his latest entry (http://lobby4linux.com/WordPress/?p=82), in which he declares the radio ads were, in fact, a mistake and that (PC)Linux(OS) is not yet "ready for the desktop" (which I thought would have been obvious, since it's in version 0.92...)
