I've used Amarok for a long time now and found 1.4 very stable and feature rich. It was without a doubt the best music player for Linux. Now that they have redesigned it for QT4 and KDE4, it has lost some functionality it used to have (no more equalizer for instance). And it's buggy. It's constantly failing to read the tags from my collection, so I end up with screwed up playlists.

So I thought I'd try Exaile. Even though it is not quite where Amarok 1.4x was, it is close and it reads my tags just fine.

So, based on the state of Amarok 2.x, I will have to say Exaile is the best of the two.

Amarok 1 was very nice, I really dislike the new one (I don't like the interface, and it doesn't play audio cds!)

Exaile is really really similar to Amarok 1, plus it's gtk so it's better for gnome users like me. The only thing I don't like about it is the manual tagging, too complex. But I hope it will be improved soon

So -> Exaile

You forgot to say: IMHO. Even Amarok 1.4 falls a waaaaaaay behind gmusicbrowser which is the most feature rich player ever ;) True, it is a little bit complicated at first, but when you get used to it, you'll know what I mean.

Amarok 2 is a disaster at this time. It fails to read tags correctly, messes them up and fails to read collection as it should (omitting songs from time to time, even artists and albums, and moving files from one folder to another). I hope it'll get better.

So, Exaile for now.
