Command line gurus...fire up your typing fingers!

Here is my issue. I am tasked with archiving dd files...usually over 50 at a shot. Each are 4 GB in size. I would like to do this from the command line but my fu is not that great.

I have one internal and two external DVD writers. I would like to use all three at the same time. I am hoping to open up Konsole, execute a command for scd0, and let it burn. Open another Konsole, execute a command for the next drive, and so forth.

My issue is two pronged....I need to be able to find the drives after I insert the DVD. The second is I need the command to burn the DVD.

Can someone help me out?

Hi baker,

I need the command to burn the DVD.

There is a nice page on commandline burning here:

CD and DVD Writing from the Linux Command Line
http://www.andrews-corner.org/burning.html

OK well it is actually my page :-). But I suspect it may be of use to you at the very least for the required commandlines for mkisofs, dd and growisofs.

Hi Dirk,

Yeah thats a good way to go. Nice tutorial, andrew.

Thanks :-). Mind you it is very practical and I use these techniques to burn all of my DVDs and CDs. Once you start doing it this way you will never return to k3b / brasero etc.
