I've installed Sketchup7 in Wine 1.1.23 under Ubuntu 9.04.

When I click on the Sketchup icon, Sketchup boots, but the work area is blank (black). Drawing on it leaves no marks.

How do I get a normal Sketchup7 work area to display? (I've already done the OpenGL fix.)

I finally gave up on somebody providing me with a software upgrade solution and spent the $50 to get a new video card.

I bought an nVidia 6600GT. After the new hardware finder found the new video card and downloaded the appropriate driver, Sketchup started working immediately (under WINE). So far the help functions don't work, and I haven't checked on the add-on programs (like Sketchy-Physics), but the regular Sketchup area seems to be working fine.

The last guy I saw writing about getting Sketchup to work under WINE used an nVidia 9800. After seeing that the video driver which Ubuntu wanted me to have was a generic nVidia driver, I would think the cheapest nVidia video card you can get would probably fix the problem. Once somebody has confirmed that, someone should try a cheap video card from another major manufacturer and post the results.
