View Full Version : [gnome] Hide menu titles?

Hi,

In xfce I can hide the titles of my Applications, Places, and System menus and just use icons for them instead, which gives me more free space on my panel.

Is this possible in gnome? Or can I at least rename the menus to shorter titles like "Apps"?

Right click on the panel and go to Add to Panel, then add one called "Main Menu". This will just be the Ubuntu logo, which will drop down into the Applications menu, with System and Places at the bottom of that.

I did this recently for pretty much the same reason you did.

It's also possible to create panel drawers or individual menus from the Applications-menu itself, or any submenu.

To do that just right-click on any item inside a menu and select "Entire Menu"->"Add this as drawer to panel" or "Add this as menu to panel".

For example here's my Applications-menu as a panel drawer with icons only:
