After taking some updates the other day when I restarted my computer the screen resolution, icons and even the web browser are so large that you can barely see any thing, I have tried changing the screen res. back but it only gives me one size to choose from now , and it will not auto detect the correct resolution anymore either, any suggestions or ideas on this little(pun) problem??

Hi and what is the model of the graphics card and how did you install the drivers?
If you are using Hardy 8.04 you may use the command
gksu displayconfig-gtk to adjust your resolution and graphics.
