I recently upgraded my web-camera to a Logitech Quick Cam Communicate STX (rev: 400). During a Skype video/audio chat with a friend (Ubuntu 9.04), I happened to turn on the System Monitor to see how much CPU processing power was being used. To My surprise it was pinned at 100% during the entire chat. The camera is identified by "lsusb" as, Bus 002 Device 007: ID 046d:08d7 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate STX.

Could someone please provide me with information regarding the following:

1. Is this CPU utilization number (100%) excessive for this type of device?
2. If not, is there a different type of driver that I can use to reduce the utilization factor?

TNX

I wouldn't use the System Monitor to measure CPU usage, because the monitor itself is very CPU hungry. Use top instead.
