Hi,
I am a newbie.I recently upgraded from ubuntu 8.10 to ubuntu 9.04. I was unable to play videos with totem so I installed VLC and I am still unable to play. If I launch a video with totem or VLC a window pops up but immediately closes off. I will be greatful for any help. Thanks.

Please provide more info to make help possible.
Not clear if your problem is caused by the upgrade.
What type of video (extension).
Have you installed codecs (ubuntu-restricted-extras or gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly)

Thanks cotcot.
none of the videos play, any format.
i think i have installed the codecs required, i have gstreamer installed also.
after searching around it seems that a lot of people are having similar problems with jaunty including problems relating to video card drivers.
my video card is Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller.
i tried to revert the video card driver to older version but without success.
an interesting phenomenon though was that i was able to play videos either in vlc or totem while rhythm box was running. as soon as i closed the rhythm box the videos all closed.
though it was all frustrating i like to think it as a learning experience and thanks for the support.
