I'm currently a windows user on my eee PC which is heavily used for media playback.

I have been thinking of switching to linux but so far the lack of good media player and efficient h.264 have prevented me from doing so. CoreAVC on windows is the best h.264 I have seen yet and I can run even 1080p content easily on eee. I know there's a coreavc for linux project but it seems like a hassle to install and a stitch job at best.

Also I haven't found a good media player for linux yet that would allow me to bind mouse side buttons to jump +/- 3 seconds (not 5 or 10 but 3 seconds) and also adjust subtitle position. The KMPlayer on windows has all this and more. So are there any good equivalents on linux so I could finally switch?

No one? Surely someone must have battled with the same issues...
