I have a six-month-old Pangolin that came installed with Intrepid. I upgraded to Jaunty about a month ago and have had several problems. After spending a lot of time and effort trying to fix them, I have decided to go back to Intrepid. I know that I have to do a clean install. That seems simple enough. What else do I have to do to get my laptop back to the way it was the day it was delivered? Is it as simple as re-installing the System76 drivers? Or are there other steps I need to take? I am a Linux newbie, so I won't be insulted by detailed, dumbed-down instructions. :)

Thanks for your help.

You can download a CD image for Ubuntu here...
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
...I recommend using 64-bit.

Once you've downloaded the CD image, you will need to burn it to a CD. However, it must be burned as an *image* and not as a *data * CD. Otherwise, it will not be bootable. Instructions for this vary based on which operating system you are using to burn the CD. Instructions for various operating systems are here.

Here are instructions for re-imaging your machine...
http://knowledge76.com/index.php/Restoring_Your_System
...including instructions for downloading, installing and running your System76 driver.

Tom, the page reached by this link has been changed in the last few weeks. It now shows only 9.04 and 8.04 as version choices.

Is there another place where one can get older versions? (I answered my own question in the next post, but hope TA has something more easily accessed.)

Edit: He does. See post 6.

I was doing the same thing as adammarx for the same reason and ended up using an Intrepid CD I had burned before Jaunty was issued. I would have preferred to use a freshly burned CD, but couldn't find Intrepid.

Edit: Don't use this mess. TA provided better link in post #6.

I think I found the link for Intrepid by going to:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#alternate

Following shortcut to the server I use: United States Michigan Tech Linux Users Group (North America)

Then to http://lug.mtu.edu/ubuntu-releases/intrepid/

TA please confirm. (Is there a simpler way?)

adammarx You might want to find a server closer to you from the first link. I had to scroll a long, long way down the page to find the servers. Good Luck,Eldera

Thanks, JDB. I've not seen that one before. Talk about a blast from the past.

For just 8.10, you can also go to...
