My second Ubuntu desktop is on an IBM thinkPad. Until a day or two ago, everything worked fine. The assistive technology suites such a ktts[d], ksayit, and kmouth: no problem. But trying to point flite at a file, gives me the error that no /dev/dsp exists. It does exist; mode 0660. But no speech from a test file. Whereas on my other Ubuntu desktop flite works.

Any ideas where I can begin to trouble-shoot this?
