Hello.
I just installed kde in Ubuntu.
I'm planning to keep both gnome and kde, for some time.
What is your opinion about this two graphical interfaces? Which one is your favorite and why?
thanks

I like both.
KDE 4 looks nicer but isn't exactly there yet completely.
Gnome is just rock solid and easier to use, but a bit oldskool.
Right now I prefer KDE just that bit more.

I prefer Gnome. Simple and easy to navigate. One thing I like about Ubuntu is that it's not windows. KDE I feel tries to be like Windows too much. Gnome can be customized anyway you want.

People always say that, but I don't see it.
It's completely different.

A few years ago I would have regretted the fact that both existed and that both consumed scarce development resources. Nowadays, I can only say that its an advantage that both exist; They are both good and they both help attracting people to the wonderful world of linux. (Actually, there are even more, such as Fluxbox etc...)
Try both, use the one you like.

KDE tends to look nicer but run slower, as far as my experience goes. Also, I've found KDE applications to be more user friendly and feature-rich, but KDE has been going through the major transition between 3.X to 4.X, so they're still smoothing out a number of rough edges and instabilities (I've found Kile 2.1 to suffer particulairly bad at the moment because of this).
Personally, I run a good number of KDE applications (K3B, Kate, Kile, Okular, etc.) under Gnome because I prefer the Gnome administration tools (mostly because of familiarity), menu layout, overall feel and stability more. KDE may not be my native window manager, but the apps still run fine as far as I can tell.

I prefer GNOME. When I tried out Kubuntu 9.04, I ran into a bunch of problems, I always felt like my OS was falling apart and all I was doing was patching it up, sort of like meat-ball surgery. With GNOME, everything works, it's a whole lot more stable, and it's more user friendly. And since both environment can run the other's apps, the one with user friendliness wins.

Out of the two, Gnome.
If I could change anything, I'd just put Openbox on a comp.

I like them both for different reasons.
I like KDE apps and I think they are easier to use and far more polished than Gnome apps.
I like Gnome because I like the functionality of it.
With that said I honestly like Xfce the best because it is lighter weight and faster.
I don't care much for fluxbox or any of those "stacking" window managers very much.
