I have a USB DVD-R drive (Apple SuperDrive) that I got for my Macbook Air.

Would it be a bad idea to try using it with my new Starling netbook, or am I asking for trouble?

I didn't hurt anything but the drive doesn't work. No power to the drive either, from what I can gather. Apple Mighty Mouse seems to work fine, though.
