I am interested in installing Skype on my Starling netbook, but I cannot find it in Synaptic. Is this an indication that Skype would not work on the Starling -- or not work very well?
I am kind of new to Linux and I much prefer to install apps through repositories available thru Synaptic rather than downloading them from Web sites.
Can anybody give me some info and tips on getting Skye working well on the Starling?

It's best to set up the medibuntu repos and install Skype from there. See...

Thanks. I did this and successfully downloaded and installed Skype. After reading this Web page, I decided to try downloading Google Earth according to its instructions. I had a lot of problems, mainly because of a EULA that Google insisted I agree to, which was hard to do in a terminal window. (Hint -- try the arrow keys). With the help of serendipity and a friend who is knowledgeable about Linux, I finally was able to get Google Earth installed. It runs rather slowly on the Starling, which I guess is not surprising given what a resource-hungry application it is. Haven't tried running Skype yet.
