View Full Version : Using SDTV as monitor to install -- no menu?

I'm trying to install Mythbuntu on my Mac mini, using my PAL SD TV as monitor.
It currently has Mac OS X on it and works well. I've partitioned the drive, and installed rEFIt as per the instructions.
But when I boot from the Mythbuntu CD I just get a blank screen, until eventually a GDM-like screen shows, telling me that user ubuntu will be logged in in 30 seconds.
Thus, no install options are presented.
Does the usual menu ('install without changing your computer',...) work when connected to a TV, or do I need a monitor to install?
I assumed it would work, just not show the text very clearly given the resolution.
Thanks.

Its very similar to a live desktop of the Ubuntu Desktop cd. When you let it boot into the ubuntu user it should load the desktop, where among other things you can use the Applications>Settings menu to adjust the resolution as well as test the functionality of your hardware prior to installing. When you are ready, there is a "Install" icon that will allow you to do a graphical install from the desktop. Pay close attention to the partitioning menu when it offers to automatically partition, or let you choose which partitions to use.

Thanks.
I have got this screen loaded, but it's not worked correctly. The background is pure black, and the mouse works, but I can't click the applications button on the menubar, and can't seem to get the keyboard to do anything either.
The mouse and keyboard work fine in Mac OS X, and I've installed mythbuntu from this CD before with success. I even tried another CD, burned slowly.
And ideas?

IIRC, the default mythbuntu livecd background is just black. Can you see the top panel with the Applications menu and when you try to click it, it doesn't open, or is it that you can't see it at all, as if its just off the screen? Either way, you could try Ctrl-Esc to open the Applications menu from the keyboard and perhaps you'll see part of that menu open.
Other then that, I'm not sure, might just be easier to attach a monitor for the installation.

Yes this is what I'm thinking; I'm going to use a monitor to install tomorrow, and hopefully it'll work out well. Thanks.
