I was installing Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II the other day, using wine of course, and it seemed that the install took SO ASTRONOMICALLY LONG that I must be doing something incorrectly. Basically I just put the disc in and run setup.exe with wine, which is integrated into Nautilus so I just double click it. Should I run it w/ sudo? What's taking so long? (I'm talking 4-6 hours for the install)

My system is by no means slow
1.8GHz AMD with latest k7 kernel
256 MB DDR Nvidia video card w/ latest drivers...
640 MB ram.
And the CD drive is 64x.
So...

I don't know, maybe this is normal? Any thoughts?

I just want to know if once I install it it will work properly so I don't wait the 10+ hours for nothing.

Thanks!

Yeah that's normal, it's to do with the amount of small mp3 files that are copied across. Wine\Cedega seems to have a problem with such a large amount of small files. Maybe it's something to do with installsheild and whatever checking mechanism it uses as it copies the files...

It's a bug in Wine - installshield tends to go slow with lots of small files.

It'll work, just give it time. Lots of time.

The most important is once the game is running ...

What about the performances of the game running with wine compared to windowbs ??
