View Full Version : [ubuntu] XP Guest - Can it use physical PCI cards?

Hi all,

I'm having some problems with installing my Netgear WPN311 and Compro Videomate T750 cards under Ubuntu, to the point where the system has no idea they are even there, let alone no drivers.

Anyway, I was thinking back to when they were running under XP and I realized I had problems even then so I think (but hoping not) that the PCI ports on my Motherboard may be giving up.

So I figure I should test the ports work by installing the cards under XP where I know they should work (proper drivers etc) If they fail that test then it may be time for a new motherboard.

My question is (as alluded to in the title) can I maybe install XP as a Virtual Machine using virtual box and test them that way, instead of wiping the whole thing or dual booting?

Any help would be appreciated.

can you determine if bios can see the cards during system boot. F1 or F2 maybe...

I went into BIOS and had a look round and honestly cannot see anything. There are bits and pieces referring to PCI but I really have no idea what 90% of it means.

It appears to be all in working order however.
