I'm running WinXP in VBox 2.2.4, under 8.04, and I've got a bridged connection on wlan0. I'm attempting to send files through mIRC , but my DCCs won't connect (not even to myself). Networking's really not my strong point, so apologies if I say something that makes you want to bang your head against your desk and weep. Like, uh... do I need to open ports up on my host? They're open in my router, but I haven't touched iptables or anything.
I've been able to send without issues at least twice. I want to say there was a third time, but I'm not positive. The two times I know it did work, was the initial attempt with each bridging method (manually, and letting VirtualBox do it's thing).
If I do need to open ports, can somebody explain why it worked the first time without my having to do anything?
(if you're wondering why I'm using mIRC, it's really the only option for what I need to do ;P)
