View Full Version : Can you be "certified" to compile kernels for Ubuntu in a professional setting?

The documentation for compiling a kernel in the Ubuntu Wiki says:

Building and using a custom kernel will make it very difficult to get support for your system. While it is a learning experience to compile your own kernel, you will not be allowed to file bugs on the custom-built kernel (if you do, they will be Rejected without further explanation).
If you have a commercial support contract with Ubuntu/Canonical, this will void such support.

I was just wondering if this still applies to Ubuntu Certified Professionals and the like? As in, could a UCP compile a kernel for some corporation which is doing an Ubuntu deployment?

I'm not a UCP, nor can I currently afford to become one, nor am I really actually planning to become one. I'm just curious.
