Here's the deal:
-I'm fairly competent with Computers overall (A+, Net+, IC3, MCP <-probably going to get me killed here)
-I put Ubuntu on my laptop (Gateway) in order to attempt to hack wireless, and promptly got distracted
-Headphones don't work.
-Attempt to update ALSA via ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810 (used the -snap parameter)
-upon reboot, headphones still don't work, and my wireless won't detect my home network.

I'm still (mostly) an Ubuntu n00b by my standards, so I need a bit of help.
