Hey all!

So I have been playing around with themes and customizing Jaunty, but there is one annoyance that I want to solve. I have seen many screenshots of other Ubuntu user's desktops, and they use fully transparent panels. Here is an example of what I mean:

The minimized windows, separators and icons are all surrounded by transparency (no ugly squares surrounding the items).

And here is the annoyance I have on my panels:

If someone could detail how to achieve the transparency effect I am so envious of, I will be very grateful.

Thanks for your time!

Right click on the panel and select properties. In the background tab, select solid color and move the slider to transparent. This is in Hardy. Have not used Jaunty yet.

The look of the buttons in panels is defined by the GTK theme you are using.

You may try to edit the theme to remove color/background graphics applied to buttons in panels, but most likely it would be easier to simply find a theme that looks the way you want.

Ah, so it depends on the GTK theme!
I'll dig around for a new theme then.

Thanks for your help. :D
