Well I have seen linux on a Ti-89 calculator....

There are some fako youtube vids getting around.... It all just depends on if it is practical, or even useful. Ubuntu over xp on a netbook, yes. Ubuntu on a phone... dunno.

You might be surprised to know that I've seen a video of exactly this.

Texas Instruments makes a smartphone for mobile development (helps developers to write software for consumer-level mobile devices), and in a promotional video for it they mentioned that it can run Windows CE, Android, and Ubuntu MID. They did show a couple of seconds of Ubuntu MID running on it; it looked like it had the normal Gnome interface running on a 4 inch screen!

I might see if I can find the video for you so you can see.

EDIT: The phone's name is the "Zoom OMAP34x-II Mobile Development Platform". I think I've found the video: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbugencontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12793&contentId=36664 and click on Scott Eisenhart.
