Ok well I installed WoW using the 3.0.1 WotLK installer and everything went fine.

I then downloaded patch 3.0.2 from Rapidshare Premium. When I went to open the patch with Wine it brought up the patch box but it was severely distorted, like you couldn't see anything in the box it was all warped and it comes up with the Ubuntu version "Not responding" (I'm new to Ubuntu and linux in general :) ).

I thought maybe the file was corrupt so I downloaded it again from another more reliable source, but alas it happened again.

I then thought maybe I should use the Blizzard Downloader, so I tried that, waited and then it said "Tracker could not function" or something to that effect.

Could anyone help with this? (Edit: I'm using Ubuntu 8.04)

Yeah, I'm running in Ubuntu 9.04 and I can't seem to patch my WoW client either. I'm currently stuck at 3.0.8.9464. I have my ports open on my router and everything. I've even done like the previous poster and tried downloading patches from other sites.

It might be a Wine problem. Happn to know your version of Wine? I'm using 1.1.22.

Right, forgot this. If I use the launcher it gets to 10% tells me it has no problems and then tells me the tracker isn't responding.

Haha I wish I knew more information at this point. :P I'm a Linux noob as well. So, I have no idea where to go from here. I think I might try downgrading my version of Wine to one that previously ran it smoothly. I'll post here when I get results.

Results! After trying all available Wine builds none got past the 10% mark for me. I tried 1.1.18 - 1.1.22.

Have you tried just letting run even though it says it has a problem? I just did so and ~15 minutes later it popped up to 70%. So, it may just be a display issue.

Well it says the program is not responding and like freezes almost. Sometimes it even froze the other programs running :( I don't know what to do lol.

Kai is it working fine for you now?

The 'Tracker is not responding' message you got today was a problem on Blizzard's end. Tuesdays aren't the best days for downloading patches from Blizzard as it's their maintenance day. Everybody hammers that tracker on Tuesday causing all kinds of problems.

The other stuff I don't know about.

Hikari I do know about WoW Wiki. I even got my downloads from there. That doesn't help me in any way. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Terminal output? I'm suspecting there's something very simple you're overlooking.
Also as other have said try a different WINE version, sometimes there are regressions.
And be sure to skim over the appdb to see if anyone else is having this issue:

So I start up my comp today to see if it would patch even though it messes up. I start up a patch and it works completely fine now v_v
