Does a password prompt come up ? If nothing shows when you try to type in your password, it's because it's safer that way : harder for an onlooker to count how many characters your password contains.

Try typing your password in blindly and pressing Enter.

You will not see anything appear on screen. Type your password then hit return, it should work.

When you type your password in at a command prompt, the characters will not show up. They won't even be masked. So, it will appear as if you're not typing anything, but you actually are. It's a security measure.
