Google Talk box?

Would it not be a good idea to also have a 'Google Talk' field in the User Profile page? I know a lot of people on here use gmail so would probably also use google talk.

Some people (I was one of them) suggested this when GTalk opened, since they officially support Gaim, but nothing happened. Someone should do a poll on this subject. ;)

This subject has been asked a few times (as we do not have a jabber box setup either) - and the answer is this:

Currently, the vbulletin version of software that we are using for the forums only has four protocol plugins: ICQ, AIM, MSN, and Yahoo IM. These are actually tied to functions that can technically IM someone from the forums. Vbulletin does not have (that I have seen) any protocol plugins to support Jabber/Google Talk, so adding those options to the list of IM protocols isn't feasible.

Given Google's popularity, I am sure we will see a Google Talk plugin available soon, and when one is available, we will most likely try and install it.

In the case of adding more IM protocols - it's not about what we choose to add - it's about what's available for us to add, that's all.

I saw we have a new "Skype Name" box in the profile section was this hard to add, if not why not now add an jabber one also!

Skype was just released from vbulletin as a new feature. The product plugin xml seems pretty straight forward I'll see if its hackable to add others.

fast as always, Ok so its a plug in, all I was thinking is just add another age box, but instead of age it would be jabber. Or is that just as hard? (I know nothing about vbulletin)
