Greenwich village ... well the closest related thing I know of is Free Culture @ NYU (http://www.freeculturenyu.org/). It's likely that at least some of their members use GNU/Linux (Ubuntu) or free software.

I would suggest attending the Open Video Conference (http://openvideoconference.org) at NYU Law School.
